Taxon and community levels of macroinvertebrate sensitivity to toxic stressors in stream ecosystems

Abstract:

Vodní ekosystémy jsou ze strany lidské populace vystaveny enormní zátěži, která má v mnoha případech za následek negativní změny v kvalitě vody. Jako nový nástroj k posouzení kvality vod byl vytvořen index SPEAR. Pro bioindikaci byli použití bezobratlí resp. makrozoobentos. Účelem celého konceptu je zjistit vliv stresoru na úrovni společenství. Hlavním cílem této práce je v teoretické části představit koncept indexu SPEAR a dále ověřit platnost soustavy tvrzení autorů o indexu SPEAR pesticidy, a to na datech z ČR. Bylo zjištěno, že index SPEAR pesticidy koreloval s dalšími biotickými index. Dále byla zjištěna pozitivní korelace mezi množstvím orné půdy v povodí a mírou degradace ekosystému. Také bylo zjištěno, že index není plně selektivní k pesticidnímu znečištění, ale reaguje i na znečištění organického původu. Byla provedena analýza indikátorových taxonů. Také byly srovnány hodnoty saprobního a ASPT indexu s kategoriálním dělením indexu SPEAR. Ukázalo, že čeleď Asellidae (klasifikovaná jako „at risk“) není příliš vhodným indikátorem pesticidního znečištění a naopak čeleď Brachycentridae (klasifikovaná jako „not at risk“) má velký indikační potenciál.

Abstract:

Aquatic ecosystems are exposed to enormous stress from side of the human population, which has in many cases resulted in negative changes in water quality. As a new tool to assess the water quality was created the index SPEAR. Invertebrates - macrozoobenthos been used for bioindication. The aim of whole concept is to find the impact of stressor at community level. The main aim of this thesis is to introduce the theoretical concept of the index SPEAR and to verify the validity of the claims of authors about SPEAR pesticides index for data from the Czech Republic. It was found that the SPEAR pesticides index correlated with other biotic index. Furthermore, a positive correlation was found between the amount of crop land in the river basin and the rate of degradation of the ecosystem. It was also found that the index is not fully selective for pesticides pollution, but also reacts to organic pollution. An analysis of indicator taxa was made. The values of saprobic and ASPT index were compared with categorical separation SPEAR index. It turned out that the family Asellidae (classified as "at risk") is not very good indicator of pesticide contamination and contrary Brachycentridae family (classified as "not at risk") has great potential indicator.
