Medea as a Thematic Source of Music Compositions in First Half of the 20th Century

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá zobrazením antického mýtu Medea a její námětovou složkou v hudbě 1. poloviny 20. století. Text je rozdělen do třech hlavních částí. První z nich nám dává nástin antického příběhu o Jasonovi a Medee. Zabývá se zobrazením jednotlivých literárních adaptací tohoto příběhu. Druhá části pojednává o historické sondě do období baroka, klasicismu a romantismu. V základní podobě je v těchto vývojových epochách artificiální hudby nastíněna práce s tímto námětem, jeho zpracování, využití hudební formy. Závěrečná část práce je zaměřena na autory, kteří námět Medey v 1. polovině 20. století hudebně zpracovali nebo se jím alespoň inspirovali. Konec poslední kapitoly je zaměřen na komparaci jednotlivých zpracování námětu. Pozornost byla soustředěna na proměny námětu, na experimenty skladatelů či na spolupráce s dalšími umělci. Cílem bylo poskytnout ucelený přehled skladatelů, kteří se tímto námětem zabývali. Po důkladném probádání pramenů a literatury byl předložen seznam osmi autorů pracujících s touto látkou.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with presentation of classical myth of Medea and its thematic element in music of the first half of the 20th century. The text is divided into three main parts. The first one gives us an outline of the story with Jason and Medea. It deals with the depiction of individual literary adaptations of this story. The second part deals with the historical probe into the Baroque, Classical and Romantic. In its basic form it is in these developmental eras of art music outlined along with this theme, its treatment, use of musical forms. The final part is focused on authors who arranged Medea story in the first half of the 20th century, or at least inspired by it. The end of the last chapter is focused on the comparison of individual treatment of topic. Attention was focused on the theme changes, on composers experiments or on collaboration with other artists. The aim was to provide a comprehensive overview of composers who have dealt with this theme. After thoroughly exploring the sources and literature was presented a list of eight authors working with this theme. In each chapter there are used methods - analysis, comparison, symbolic interpretations, genetic and historical synthesis.
