Abstract:

Tato magisterská diplomová práce se zabývá metodami kvantitativního výzkumu v oblasti výuky cizích jazyků, konkrétně v oblasti analýzy chyb, a to z teoretického i praktického hlediska. Teoretická část popisuje vývoj tří oblastí – analýza chyb, korpusová lingvistika a kvantitativní lingvistika. U korpusové a kvantitativní lingvistiky je zkoumán jejich vliv na metodologické postupy v oblasti analýzy chyb. Práce předkládá výsledky rešerše v oblasti analýzy chyb a výuky cizích jazyků a také zdrojů zaměřených na metodologii výzkumu, jejichž cílem je zjistit stav rozvoje použití kvantitativních metod výzkumu v těchto oblastech. Praktická část se zabývá výsledky kvantitativního výzkumu faktorů ovlivňujících výskyt chyb ve slovesných časech a videch anglického jazyka u českých pokročilých studentů angličtiny. Výzkum byl proveden na datech korpusu studentských prací, který byl vytvořen pro účely této diplomové práce. Důraz je kladen na metodologii popisující získání, anotaci a analýzu dat. V rámci výzkumu jsou za pomoci různých statistických technik testovány čtyři hypotézy, jejichž platnost je následně ověřována. Zkoumaný vzorek dat je zveřejněn pro účely dalšího výzkumu v této oblasti.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the topic of quantitative research methods application in Second Language Acquisition research, specifically in Error Analysis, from both theoretical and practical perspectives. In the theoretical part, the overlapping development of three fields, Error Analysis, Corpus Linguistics and Quantitative Linguistics, is traced and influence of the latter two on methodological approaches in EA is discussed. An extensive research is conducted into the EA, SLA and methodology-focused sources in order to establish the current state of methodological development with regards to quantitative methods in these fields. The practical part presents the results of a quantitative corpus-driven research into factors affecting English verb tense and aspect error production in Czech advanced learners of English. The learner corpus was compiled for the purposes of the present thesis. Special attention is devoted to the methodology chapter where data collection, annotation and analysis procedures are described in detail. In the course of the research, four hypotheses are tested using various statistical techniques, and the results are discussed. The collected dataset is made publicly available to facilitate future research.
