Ethological observations of a selected group of lambs

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce bylo etologické pozorovaní vybrané skupiny jehňat. Tato bakalářská je složena ze dvou částí, a to z části teoretické a části praktické či experimentální. Teoretická část obsahuje jednotlivé informace o vědním oboru etologie, její charakteristice a významu, také vznik etologie, metody pozorování a rozdělení chování zvířat. Další částí literárního přehledu je popis významu chovu ovcí, chování jehňat, specifické životní projevy. Experimentální část se skládá z popisu sledovaného plemene, také z mých výsledků etologického pozorovaní a etogramů, součásti je také vyhodnocení získaných výsledků. Porovnávalo se chování čerstvě narozených jehňat, jehňat přibližně 10 dnů starých a chování měsíčních zvířat. V závěru jsem zjistila, že novorozená jehňata přes polovinu času trávila odpočinkem, čtvrtinu času se pohybovala za matkou nebo stála. Zvířata 10 dní stará odpočinkem trávila mnohém méně času než novorozená, a to jenom 30 %. U starších zvířat jsem sledovala nové životní projevy: zkoumání okolí, péči o zevnějšek nebo příjem vody. Měsíc stará zvířata v procentuálním vyjádření odpočívala ještě méně. Také klesal čas strávený sáním mléka nebo zkoumáním okolí. Ale na druhou stranu narůstal grooming.

Abstract:

The topic of the bachelor thesis was ethological observation of a selected group of lambs. This bachelor's degree consists of two parts, namely a theoretical part and a practical or experimental part. The theoretical part contains individual information about the scientific field of ethology, its characteristics and meaning, as well as the origin of ethology, methods of observation and classification of animal behavior. Another part of the literature review is a description of the meaning of sheep breeding, the behavior of lambs, specific life manifestations. The experimental part consists of a description of the observed breed, also of my results of ethological observation and ethograms, and also includes an evaluation of the obtained results. The behavior of newborn lambs, lambs approximately 10 days old, and month-old animals was compared. In the end, I found out that newborn lambs spent more than half of their time resting, a quarter of the time moving behind their mother or standing. Animals 10 days old spent much less time resting than newborns, only 30%. In older animals, I observed new life manifestations: exploring the surroundings, caring for the exterior or drinking water. Month-old animals rested even less in percentage terms. The time spent pumping milk or exploring the surroundings also decreased. But on the other hand, grooming was increasing.
