Migration wave from Venezuela to Peru as a result of Venezuelan crisis: Case study of Venezuelans in Cusco

Abstract:

Diplomová práce zkoumá téma migrační vlny z Venezuely do Peru v důsledku venezuelské krize. Cílem je zjistit jak venezuelští migranti vnímají aktuální dění ve Venezuele a co pro ně byl hlavní důvod k odchodu ze země. Dále jak vnímají možnosti uplatnění v Peru, Peruánce samotné a rozdílnost obou kultur. Konečně také jak se v Peru cítí přijati ze strany místních obyvatel. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou, analytickou a praktickou část. Teoretická část se zabývá vysvětlením a vymezením pojmů teorie migrace s výběrem a bližším seznámením s push-pull teorií migrace. Analytická část popisuje skutečnosti, vedoucí k humanitární krizi ve Venezuele, společně s přiblížením aktuální problematiky a nejdůležitějších faktorů krize, kterým musí obyvatelé dané země čelit. Blíže se popisuje téma potravinové krize, kriminality, inflace a dalších faktorů pojících se k dané problematice. Práce se zaměřuje i na aktuální situaci v Peru, konkrétně ve městě Cusco a jaký vliv má venezuelská migrační krize na tento přijímací stát a region. Hlavním předmětem diplomové práce je praktická část, která je založena na metodě polo-strukturovaných rozhovorů s venezuelskými migranty, žijícími v peruánském městě Cusco.

Abstract:

Diploma thesis deals with the topic of migration wave from Venezuela to Peru due to the Venezuelan crisis. The aim is to find out how Venezuelan migrants perceive current situation in Venezuela and what was the main reason for them to leave the country. Furthermore, how they perceive employment possibilities in Peru, Peruvian themselves and the diversity of both cultures. Finally, how much they feel accepted by the local people in Peru. The thesis is divided into the theoretical, analytical and practical part. The theoretical part deals with the explanation and definition of the concepts of migration theory with selection and closer acquaintance with the push-pull theory of migration. The analytical part describes the facts leading to the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela, together with the current issues and the most important factors of the crisis. The topic of the food crisis, crime, inflation, and other factors related to the issue is described in more detail. Diploma thesis also focuses on the current situation in Peru, namely in Cusco and what influence the Venezuelan migration crisis has on this receiving state and region. The main subject of the thesis is a practical part, which is based on the method of semi-structured interviews with Venezuelan migrants living in the Peruvian city of Cusco.
