Abstract:

Diplomová práce „Estetika destrukce: změna a identita u Sylvie Plathové“ pojednává o propojení identity, změny a destrukce. Ukazuje se zde, jak na sebe tyto problémy navazují a jakým způsobem spolu souvisí. Nestabilní a mnohočetné Já poukazuje k ničení sebe, k neustálé touze po novém a intenzivnějším prožitku. Zabýváme se proto v této práci tělesností, vztahem tělesnosti k psaní, utvářením identit a jejich proměn. Neustálá transformace a přepínání z modu tělesna do modu zidealizovaného duchovna vede až k hranici šílenství, k extrémům, kdy už nelze jít dále. I v psaní Plathové se ukazuje toto “překračování” z extrému do extrému. Plathová si udržuje distanci mezi tělesnem a duchovnem, snaží se nalézt “pravé Já”, stabilní jádro osobnosti. Dává ale přednost kreativnímu procesu, který z kontrastů a extrémů žije a čerpá energii. Těsně před smrtí získává onu “půdu pod nohama” svého Já, v tomto extrému se ale vyčerpala. V práci srovnáváme interpretace dvou význačných komentátorů J. Roseové a T. Kendalla. Způsob, jakým reagují na hlavní témata jako je identita, tělesnost, změna a smrt prozrazuje rozdílné přístupy navazující na jedné straně na R. W. Emersona (Kendall) a na druhé straně na Freuda a J. C Oatesovou (v případě Roseové)

Abstract:

Diploma thesis „Aesthetics of Destruction: Change and Identity in Sylvia Plath“ deals with the connection of identity, change and destruction. We show here how these issues follow one from the other and how they relate to one another. Instable and multi-faceted self (a dividual self) refers to the destruction of oneself, to a constant desire for a new and more intense experience. That is why we deal in this work with corporeity, the relationship between corporeity and writing, constitution of identities and their transformations. Incessant transformation and switching from the mode of corporeity to the mode of idealized spiritual realm lead to the brink of madness, to extremes when one cannot go any further. This “crossing” from one extreme to another is manifest in Sylvia Plath´s writing as well. Plath keeps the distance between corporeity and spiritual realm; she tries to find the “real I”, a stable core of personality. However, she prefers the creative process which lives from the expremes and contrasts and which draws its energy from them. Right before her death, she gains the desired “stable ground” of her I, but she exhausts herself in the extreme path she takes. In this work, we compare two interpreations of Plath´s significant commentators, J. Rose and T. Kendall. The way in which they react on the main themes such as identity, change, corporeity and death manifests their different approaches drawing on R. W. Emerson on the one hand (Kendall) and Freud, J. C. Oates on the other (in case of Rose).
