Possibilities of railway brownfields’ cultural use in Prague

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je na praktických příkladech ukázat potenciál a možnosti kulturního využití železničních brownfields v hlavním městě Praze. Teoretická část se zaměřuje na problematiku brownfields na úrovni České republiky, nastiňuje procesy a mechanismy vedoucí k jejich vzniku a popisuje možnosti jejich regenerace, přičemž vymezuje i ekonomický rámec regenerace. Praktická část poskytuje ucelený pohled na vývoj železničního uzlu v Praze. Nastiňuje situaci železničních brownfields a identifikuje možnosti jejich využití pro kulturní účely. V poslední části práce jsou zkoumána čtyři pražská nádraží vykazující znaky brownfields s cílem identifikovat podmínky a překážky úspěšnosti jejich využití ke kulturním účelům. Při zpracování práce jsou užity polostrukturované rozhovory s aktéry projektů regenerace, jakož i rešerše dostupné literatury, informací a dat. Ze získaných informací jsou v závěru práce formulovány konkrétní návrhy postupů vztahujících se ke kulturnímu využití železničních brownfields v Praze.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to demonstrate the potential and the possibilities of cultural use of railway brownfields on practical examples of railway stations in Prague. The theoretical part focuses on the issue of brownfields in the Czech Republic, it outlines the processes and mechanisms leading to their creation and describes the possibilities of their regeneration, as well as defines the economic aspects. The practical part provides an overall view on the development of the railway junction in Prague. It gives a summary of the situation of railway brownfields and identifies the possibilities of their use for cultural purposes. In the last part of the thesis, four Prague’s railway brownfields are analyzed with the aim to identify the conditions and barriers of their successful cultural reuse. Semi-structured interviews with several involved parties, as well as thorough examination of literature, information and data, are used for the purposes of the thesis. At the final part, concrete methods of railway brownfields’ cultural use in Prague are suggested.
