Optical characterization of columnar thin films

Abstract:

Dielektrické tenké vrstvy (tvořené oxidy kovů, sulfidy,...), které byly vytvořeny např. reaktivním napařováním, vykazují často sloupcovou strukturu. Přitom velikost a uspořádání sloupců vrstvy je závislé na depoziční teplotě. Mezi sloupci, pevnou částí vrstvy, se mohou nacházet prostory-póry, které jsou za normálních podmínek zaplněny vzduchem, vodou, resp. jinými látkami. Objem těchto prostorů a jejich výplň ovlivňují optické vlastnosti celé vrstvy, jejíž optické konstanty lze studovat pomocí spektrofotometrie a spektroskopické elipsometrie. Tyto optické metody byly použity i v této práci pro studium HfO2 a TiO2 sloupcových vrstev na substrátu z křemíku.

Abstract:

The dielectric thin films (formed from the metalic oxids, sulphids,...), which were prepared for example using vacuum reactive evaporation, have often a columnar structure. It is known that the size and the forming of columns of the films is depending on the deposition temperature. Between the columns, the solid part of the film, can be the spaces-pores, which are filled by water, air or another material at the usual conditions. The volume of these spaces and the material inside them influences the optical properties of the whole film, which we can study using the spectrofotometry and spectroscopic ellipsometry. These optical methods was used in this work to study the HfO2 and TiO2 columnar films placed on the Si substrate.
