Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá tím, jak Cormac McCarthy pracuje s postavou chlapce ve vybraných románech – Dítě Boží, Krvavý poledník a Cesta. Hlavním cílem této práce je analyzovat některé prvky, které tyto postavy mají podobné, stejně jako ty, ve kterých se liší, a co je způsobuje. Práce se zaměřuje na to, co dělá tuto postavu chlapce McCarthyho tropem (tropus=postava, která je záměrně užita opakovaně) a jak se tato postava mění román od románu. Vzhledem k tomu, že Dítě Boží je napsáno v Jižanské gotice, Krvavý poledník je western a Cesta se drží podžánru sience fiction post-apocalyptického stylu, také tyto aspekty jsou vzaty v potaz.

Abstract:

This Master’s Diploma Thesis deals with how Cormac McCarthy uses the character of a boy in his three selected novels—Child of God, Blood Meridian, and The Road. The main aim of the thesis is to analyze some characteristic features that these characters share as well as what differences are there between them and what causes them. The thesis focuses on what makes the boy McCarthy’s trope and how the character of the boy evolves from novel to novel. Since Child of God is written in Southern Gothic, Blood Meridian is a western, and The Road follows the science fiction subgenre post-apocalyptic style, these aspects are also taken into consideration.
