The Importance of Human Rights Education in Social Work Practice: A Study of Social Work Curricula in Universities of the Czech Republic

Abstract:

This qualitative thesis analyzes the role of human rights education in shaping social work practice, focusing on the curriculum of social work programs across Czech universities. It is becoming increasingly important for social workers to understand how human rights principles can be incorporated into educational frameworks to cultivate socially conscious and ethical practitioners. The study employs a qualitative research design, utilizing in-depth interviews and content analysis of social work curriculum documents. By engaging with educators, practitioners, and students, this research aims to identify the extent to which human rights concepts are integrated into the educational landscape. Through thematic analysis, the study explores the perceived strengths, challenges, and opportunities associated with the inclusion of human rights education in social work programs. The findings of this research are expected to contribute to the ongoing discourse surrounding the intersection of human rights and social work. By uncovering patterns and variations within the curricular structures, the study aims to provide insights that can inform policy development, curriculum enhancement, and professional training in the Czech Republic's social work sector. Through this thesis, human rights education can empower social workers to address complex social issues with a heightened awareness of ethical principles and a commitment to promoting social justice.
