Mons Oliveti in the Transformations of the Long Thirteenth Century

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práce se zabývá proměnou osídlení na državách litomyšlského premonstrátského kláštera a přilehlého českomoravského pomezí v dlouhém 13. století. V historické literatuře dosud převládá důraz na jeho národnostní stránku spojenou s příchodem německých osadníků a z něj vzešlý výklad o „vnitřní a vnější kolonizaci“. Tato práce na základě moderního bádání o středověké transformaci téma interpretuje v jiném světle. Ne jako střetávání dvou odlišných etnických skupin, ale jako dialog domácích předpokladů a inovací přejímaných z vyspělejších částí latinské Evropy. Úvodní kapitoly pojednávají o založení litomyšlské kanonie a její majetkové základně ve druhé polovině 12. století. Následuje hlavní část práce o úsilí litomyšlských premonstrátů modernizovat své državy. Poslední kapitola pojednává o městských počátcích Litomyšle, Poličky, Svitav a České Třebové.

Abstract:

The master thesis deals with the transformation of the settlement on the estates of the Premonstratensian monastery in Litomyšl and the adjacent Czech-Moravian borderland in the long 13th century. In the historical literature, the emphasis on its ethnic side associated with the arrival of German settlers and the resulting interpretation of „internal and external colonization“ still prevail. Based on modern research on medieval transformation, this work interprets the topic in a different light. Not as a clash of two different ethnic groups, but as a dialogue of domestic preconditions and innovations taken over from more developed parts of Latin Europe. The introductory chapters deal with the founding of the Litomyšl monastery and its possessions in the second half of the 12th century. The main part of the thesis is about the efforts of the Premonstratensians of Litomyšl to modernize their estates. The last chapter explores the town beginnings of Litomyšl, Polička, Svitavy, and Česká Třebová.
