Care about the sick from prehistory to the present

Abstract:

21. století se nese ve znamení nejen rychle se rozvíjejícího po-kroku, ať už v přírodních, lékařských či technických vědách, ale také v nejrychlejším přibývání populace za celou éru existence lidstva – prodlužuje se střední délka života, snižuje se dětská úmrtnost a život se celkově stává kvalitnějším. Ne vždy tomu však tak bylo. Lidskou existenci provází už od pradávna epidemie, nemoci, úrazy a jiné patologické stavy. Je jich celá řada, která zanechává ať už na měkkých či tvrdých tkáních, stopy po svém působení. Díky tomu se tak můžeme dozvědět mnohé o zdravotních problémech, které naše předky trápily od pravěku až po relativně nedávné období novověku či současnost. Vztahy mezi lékaři či léčiteli, nemocemi, úrazy a pacienty se bude zabývat i tato práce. Je totiž velmi důležité, uvědomit si také souvislost mezi nemocemi a jejich vlivem na lidskou historii jako výrazného faktoru. Choroby jsou totiž tím, co mnohdy ovlivňuje chod a ráz dějin.

Abstract:

The 21st century is known not only for its rapidly evolving pro-gress, be it natural, medical or technical sciences, but also by the fast-est growing population in the entire era of human existence – it pro-longed life expectancy, decreased child mortality rates and made a bet-ter standard of living. However, this has not always the case. Human existence has been plagued by ancient epidemics, diseases, injuries and other pathological conditions. Many of which leave traces of their affects on either soft or hard tissues. Thanks to this, we can learn a lot about the health problems that plagued our ancestors from the past to the present Modern Age today. Relationships between physicians or healers, diseases, injuries and patients will also be addressed in the work. It is important to understand the relationship between diseases and their impact on human history as a significant factor. Diseases actually work as a team that often determines the nature and the course of history.
