Breeding of the common redshank (Tringa totanus) in wetlands in agriculture landscape

Abstract:

Vodouš rudonohý (Tringa totanus) je kriticky ohrožený druh, hnízdící v současné době především na polních mokřadech, o nichž není známo mnoho informací. Rešeršní část této práce se zabývá rozšířením a vývojem početnosti vodouše rudonohého, jeho hnízdními nároky a průběhem hnízdění. Shrnuje také faktory ohrožení a možnosti ochrany tohoto druhu v Evropě. V druhé části jsou shrnuta všechna známá hnízdiště druhu na jižní Moravě v letech 2016–2020. V tomto období byly zaznamenány tři typy hnízdních biotopů: mokřady, vysychavé polní rozlivy a okraje rybníků. Dohromady bylo od roku 2010 sledováno 93 lokalit, z toho 75 lokalit s hnízdním výskytem v období 2016–2020. U každého pozorování byla zaznamenána průkaznost hnízdění. K analýze charakteristiky hnízdního prostředí bylo vybráno 35 lokalit, zahrnujících pravidelná a nepravidelná hnízdiště vodoušů rudonohých v mokřadech a polních rozlivech a hnízdní lokality čejky chocholaté (Vanellus vanellus) bez hnízdění vodoušů. Bylo zkoumáno využití krajiny (land use) v okolí lokalit, jejich vzdálenost od vodní plochy a stromů a rozloha lokalit. Výsledky ukazují, že počet vodoušů rudonohých na jižní Moravě, který se v letech 2016–2020 pohyboval mezi 24 a 52 páry, v současnosti převyšuje poslední odhadované počty pro celé území České republiky. Nejvýznamnějšími hnízdními oblastmi bylo území bývalých okresů Břeclav a Hodonín. Nejčastěji vodouši hnízdili v jednom páru na lokalitu, bylo však zjištěno i osm párů na jedné lokalitě. Početnost populace na jižní Moravě se měnila především podle výskytu efemerních polních rozlivů, jejichž výskyt závisí na množství srážek v dané sezoně. Kolem hnízdišť se nejčastěji vyskytovala orná půda a trvalé travní porosty. Pravidelná hnízdiště se nacházela ve větší vzdálenosti od stromů než hnízdiště nepravidelná. Jiné rozdíly nebyly analýzou charakteristiky lokalit zjištěny. Získané údaje mohou přispět k ochraně tohoto ohroženého druhu na jižní Moravě. Zároveň by měly motivovat k dalšímu výzkumu, který by se měl zaměřit na hnízdní úspěšnost, která je ve sledovaném území poměrně nízká.

Abstract:

The common redshank (Tringa totanus) is a critically endangered species, currently breeding mainly in field wetlands, about which not much information is known. The research part of this work focuses on the distribution and population trends of the common redshank, its breeding requirements, and the course of breeding. It also summarizes the threat factors and the conservation management for this species in Europe. The second part summarizes all known breeding sites of the species in southern Moravia in the years 2016–2020. During this period, three types of breeding habitats were recorded: wetlands, field wetlands, and pond edges. A total of 93 localities have been monitored since the year 2010, of which 75 localities had the occurrence of breeding in the years 2016–2020. The category of breeding evidence was noted for each observation. To analyse the characteristics of the breeding habitat, 35 localities were selected, including regular and irregular breeding sites of common redshank in wetlands and field wetlands, and breeding sites of the Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus) without breeding of the common redshank. The land use around the sites, their distance from the water bodies and trees, and the size of locations were examined. The results show that the number of pairs of the common redshank in South Moravia, which ranged between 24 and 52 in the time period from the year 2016 to 2020, currently exceeds the last estimated numbers for the entire territory of the Czech Republic. The former districts of Břeclav and Hodonín were the most important breeding areas. Most often the common redshank was breeding in one pair per locality, but 8 pairs per locality were also found. The population trend in South Moravia varied mostly in relation to the occurrence of ephemeral field wetlands, the occurrence of which depends on the amount of precipitation in a given season. Arable land and permanent grassland were most common around breeding sites. Regular nests were located at a greater distance from the trees than irregular nests. Other differences were not found by analysis of site characteristics. The data obtained may contribute to the protection of this endangered species in South Moravia. At the same time, they should motivate further research, which should focus on breeding success, which is relatively low in the monitored area.
