Comparative Analysis of V4 Countries’ Determinants of Economic Growth

Abstract:

This diploma thesis examines the macroeconomic and socioeconomic determinants of economic growth in the Visegrád Group (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia). The study analyzes key indicators such as unemployment, inflation, foreign direct investment (FDI), migration, and income inequality, comparing their effects across the V4 countries. Findings indicate that unemployment consistently negatively impacts growth, while inflation exhibits mixed effects. FDI benefits Czechia and Hungary more than Poland and Slovakia, whereas migration effects remain minimal. The Gini coefficient suggests a positive relationship between income inequality and economic growth, potentially due to investment incentives. Post-EU accession, economic performance improved across the V4, with Slovakia benefiting most due to Eurozone membership. Despite limitations related to data scope and methodological constraints, the study provides valuable insights for policymakers. Future research should explore extended time periods and advanced econometric methods to refine growth strategies for the V4 nations.
