The development of I-Stems in Czech

Abstract:

Tato magisterská práce se zabývá vývojem českých i-kmenů od praslovanštiny (období klasické praslovanštiny) do nové češtiny. Práce je rozdělena do dvou částí: první poskytuje teoretické východisko pro staročeský deklinační systém se zřetelem k i-kmenům, druhá obsahuje analýzu vybraných i-kmenových substantiv a jejich vývoj od staré češtiny po současnost. Analyzovaný materiál je převzat z Historické mluvnice jazyka českého: Tvarosloví – Skloňování Jana Gebauera. Analýza ukazuje, které morfologické a fonologické změny a jazykové tendence ovlivnily tuto deklinaci.

Abstract:

This master thesis deals with the development of I-stems in Czech language from Proto-Slavic (Common Slavic period) to modern Czech. Thesis is divided in two main chapters, the first one providing the theoretical foundation to the old Czech declension system with regard to I-stems, whereas the second part contains the analysis of selected I-stem nouns and their development from old Czech to modern Czech up until the present time. The analysed material is taken from Jan Gebauer’s Historical grammar of the Czech language: Morphology – Declension. Analyses show which morphological and phonological changes and tendencies have influenced this declension.
