Social services lockdown due to pandemic and its effects for the clients

Abstract:

V teoretické části jsou popsány druhy sociálních služeb dostupných pro seniory. Uveden je podrobnější popis služeb a jejich uživatelů. Teoretická část obsahuje i opatření vydaná MPSV v době pandemie a údaje o dopadu pandemie na seniory. V praktické části je formou řízených, polostrukturovaných rozhovorů zkoumán dopad uzavření domovů pro seniory na jejich obyvatele a pohled zaměstnanců na stejnou pro-blematiku. Pomocí připravených otázek bylo dotazováno 10 uživatelů a 6 zaměstnanců domovů pro seniory. U klientů domovů pro seniory bylo zjišťováno, jak na ně působilo uzavření domovů a zákaz návštěv, co jim v době pandemie chybělo nejvíce, na co se těšili, zda a jakým způ-sobem byli v kontaktu s rodinou. Od zaměstnanců bylo zjišťováno, jak vnímali uzavření domovů, zda bylo pro klienty ně-jak přínosné, co klientům z jejich pohledu nejvíce chybělo, zda si myslí, že byla pande-mie pro domovy něčím přínosná, co udělali pro klienty, aby se cítili lépe. Kromě dopadu opatření bylo cílem zjistit pozitiva, která tato opatření přinesla a mohou se tak promítnout do dalšího chodu zařízení.

Abstract:

The theoretical part describes different social services available to senior citizens. We will deal thoroughly with the description of services provided in social centres and specify a typical client of such services. The theoretical part also includes guidelines by Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs issued during the pandemic as well as data regar-ding the impact of the pandemic upon the senior population. The practical part uses semi-structured interviews, directed by qualitative research, to examine the impact of retirement homes lockdown upon their clients, as well as the staff opinions regarding the issue. Using pre-structured questions, we interviewed 10 clients and 6 members of staff in retirement homes. The clients were asked how the retirement homes lockdown and the no visits policy in-fluenced them, what they missed the most during the pandemic times, what they were looking forward to, if and in what way they stayed in touch with their families. As for the staff, they were interviewed about their feelings regarding the retirement ho-mes lockdown, whether it was in any way beneficial for the clients, what do they think their clients missed the most, whether they think the pandemic itself brought any impro-vement for the retirement homes as such and also what they did to help their clients feel better. Apart from the impact of the pandemic measures upon the retirement homes we aimed at identifying the possible positive aspects of these measures and what benefits they intro-duced, which can be further used to improve the daily life in such establishments.
