The historical roots of the contemporary identity of the town of Liberec.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá zkoumáním identity města Liberce na základě pramenů, svědectví pamětníků, urbanismu a historických událostí. Liberec prošel v posledních 200 letech radikální proměnou. Studie tuto proměnu města popisuje a definuje historické kořeny, které utvářely současnou libereckou městskou identitu. Kromě inovací v průmyslových odvětvích, změn krajinného rázu a urbanismu Liberce lze městskou identitu doložit i na dobovém vnímání atmosféry ve městě jeho obyvateli a návštěvníky. Proto je ústředním motivem bakalářské práce propojení jednotlivých míst ve městě se vzpomínkami lidí, kteří se na utváření identity města podíleli a stále podílejí. Cílem bakalářské práce je zachycení a definici historických kořenů identity města Liberce a jejich vlivu na současnou městskou identitu. Na současné podobě města je patrná urbanistická nesourodost a roztříštěnost městského prostoru. Tato studie má za cíl nalézt důvody, které k této podobě vedly.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the study of the identity of the city of Liberec based on sources, testimony of witnesses, urbanism and historical events. Liberec went through a radical change over the last 200 years. The study describes the transformation of the city and defines the historical roots that shaped the contemporary city identity of the town of Liberec. Besides the innovations in the industrial sectors, the landscape changes and the urbanization of Liberec, the city's identity can be documented also by the perception of the atmosphere in the city by its inhabitants and visitors. That is why the central theme of the bachelor thesis is the connection of individual places in the city with the memories of people who participated in and continue to shape the city identity. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to capture and define the historical roots of the identity of the city of Liberec and their influence on the contemporary urban identity. The current form of the city is characterized by urban disparity and fragmentation of urban space. This study aims to find the reasons that led to this form.
