War on terror: A geopolitical analysis

Abstract:

Táto práce zkoumá válku proti teroru, která byla vyhlášena americkými mocenskými elitami po teroristických činech z 11. září 2001 jako způsob, jež má zbavit svět teroristického nebezpečí. V práci je válka proti teroru představena jako neadekvátní reakce na teroristickou hrozbu a zejména jako konstrukt, který odráží západní, a především americké, geopolitické myšlení, jež se snaží rozčlenit svět do určitých zón, které jsou přirozeně „dobré“ či „zlé“, „bezpečné“ či „nebezpečné“ a často ignoruje, že tyto zóny jsou obydleny reálnými lidmi. Proto zde existuje snaha podobné geografické imaginace dekonstruovat ve smyslu kritiky orientalismu Edwarda Saida a prezentovat je jako účelové výtvory, které vyhovují určitým mocenským skupinám a jejich ideologii.

Abstract:

This work examines war on terror, which was declared by American power elites after terrorist acts of September 11th, 2001 as a way how to eliminate terrorist threat. In this work war on terror is introduced as an inadequate reaction on terrorist threat and especially as a construct, which mirrors Western, and mainly American, geopolitical thinking that aims to divide world into naturally „good“ and „evil“, „secured“ and „dangerous“ zones and often ignores that these zones are inhabited by real people. Hence there is an effort to deconstruct such geographical imaginations in a sense of Edward Said’s criticism of orientalism and present them as purpose-built creations that suits ideologies of certain groups.
