Abstract:

Technologie určené pro spolupráci ve virtuální realitě (VR) v poslední době významně pokročily. Tato práce se zabývá návrhem nástrojů a metod vhodných pro vzdělávání v kolaborativních pohlcujících virtuálních prostředích. Mým hlavním cílem je zmenšit propast mezi učiteli, designéry a vývojáři, kteří jsou všichni zapojení v procesu návrhu a tvorby interaktivních vzdělávacích virtuálních prostředí. Záměrem je podpořit součinnost těchto tří rolí vedoucí ke vytváření použitelných nástrojů pro synchronní a asynchronní spolupráci ve VR. Tato práce diskutuje klíčové koncepty, které souvisí se spoluprací a vzděláváním ve VR, a analyzuje nejmodernější používané řešení a metody určené k těmto účelům. I přes to, že kolaborativní virtuální realita nabízí mnohé výhody pro učitele i studenty, její osvojení ve vzdělávání čelí mnohým výzvám, které jsou v této práci také představeny. Tyto výzvy často souvisí se samotným návrhem virtuálních prostředí a použitelností existujících aplikací. Můj přínos, který souvisí s řešením několika problémů vztahujících se k asynchronní komunikaci, je zde také popsán. V mám následujícím výzkumu se budu soustředit na návrh metod a technik pro synchronní spolupráci studentů a učitelů ve VR.

Abstract:

In recent years, collaborative virtual reality (VR) technologies have significantly advanced. This thesis is concerned with designing tools and methods suited for education in collaborative immersive virtual environments. My main goal is to reduce the gap between teachers, designers, and developers who are all involved in the process of designing and creating interactive virtual environments for education. The objective is to support these three roles in their cooperation that leads to creating usable tools for synchronous and asynchronous collaboration in VR. This thesis discusses the key concepts relevant to collaboration and education in VR and analyzes the state-of-the-art solutions and methods used for that. Even though collaborative virtual reality offers several benefits for educators and students, its adoption in education faces many challenges that are also introduced. These challenges are often connected to the design of the virtual environments and the usability of the existing software. My contributions in addressing a number of these challenges related to asynchronous communication are also mentioned. In my future research, I will focus on designing methods and techniques for synchronous collaboration of students and teachers in VR.
