Stará aréna: Independent Multicultural Place and its Position among Theatres in Ostrava

Abstract:

Diplomová práce zkoumá specifika nezávislé multikulturní instituce Stará aréna a její pozici v divadelním systému města Ostrava. První část se zabývá kulturou v Ostravě, teorií divadelního systému a stručnou charakteristikou dalších divadelních institucí v Ostravě. Druhá část je věnována Staré aréně. Z výsledků mého bádání vyplývá, že Stará aréna se jako jediná kulturní instituce v Ostravě aktivně věnuje rozvíjení nového alternativního divadla a podporuje mladé začínající umělce.

Abstract:

The thesis examines the specifics of independent multicultural institution Stará aréna and its signifikance within Ostrava's theatre network. The first part deals with the cultural scene of the city, theory of the theatre system and the characteristics of the other theatres in Ostrava. The second part is dedicated to the institution Stará aréna. The results of my research shows that Stará aréna is the only cultural institution in Ostrava actively engaged in developing new alternative theatre and supporting young artists.
