The literary work of the four percent minority using the example of the novel Der Fromme Tanz by Klaus Mann

Abstract:

Literature with homosexual themes has a tumultuous history due to society's strongly critical view on the individuals within the community. The novel The Pious Dance (Der fromme Tanz) is an influential example of such literature within Germany's history due to is noncritical portrayal of homosexuality and a protagonist fully accepting his sexual orientation. This literary analysis focuses on the protagonist of the novel and as a goal has to establish the character's motivations as well as his perception of himself, crucial people in his life and the world around him.

Abstract:

Literatur mit homosexueller Thematik hat eine wechselvolle Geschichte, da die Gesellschaft den Individuen dieser Gemeinschaft sehr kritisch gegenüberstand. Der Roman Der fromme Tanz ist aufgrund seiner unkritischen Darstellung von Homosexualität und eines Protagonisten, der seine sexuelle Orientierung voll akzeptiert, ein einflussreiches Beispiel für solche Literatur in der deutschen Geschichte. Die vorliegende Literaturanalyse konzentriert sich auf den Protagonisten des Romans und hat zum Ziel, die Beweggründe der Figur sowie ihre Wahrnehmung von sich selbst, von wichtigen Personen in ihrem Leben und von der Welt um sie herum zu ermitteln.
