Archaeological analysis through the application of 3D reconstruction: New methods of classification of archaeological artefacts

Abstract:

Aplikace metod optické dokumentace (např. obrazové korelace) na archeologických artefaktech a následně provedená rekonstrukce 3D modelu umožňuje zisk standar-dizovaných dat. Jejich syntézou a dalším zkoumáním je možné získat informace nejen o artefaktu samotném, ale i o jeho tvůrcích a jejich společnosti. Ve třech případových studiích jsou popsány původní autorské metody klasifikace archeologických artefak-tů prostřednictvím analýzy 3D modelů a je argumentován přínos její aplikace v rámci běžné archeologické praxe.

Abstract:

The application of optical documentation methods (e.g. Image based Modelling) on archaeological artefacts and the subsequent reconstruction of the 3D model, ena-bles the acquisition of standardized data. Through data synthesis and further analy-sis, we can obtain information not only about the artifact itself, but also about its creators and their society. In three case studies, author's original methods of classi-fying archaeological artifacts through the analysis of 3D models are described and the benefit of new ways of application in the workflow of archaeological practice is argued and justified.
