Logic of Dominance in Residential Suburbs

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce pojednává o myšlenkovém směru a hnutí ekofeminismu. Myšlenky ekofeminismu jsou vysvětleny na jevech spojených s procesem rezidenční suburbanizace, což je aktuální problém českých měst. Ekofeminismus není jednotný směr, zastřešuje více různých přístupů, tato práce se zaměřuje především na ekofeminismus sociální. Blíže se pak zabývá myšlenkami sociální ekofeministky Karen J. Warren a pracuje s jejím pojmem logiky dominance, což je dle Warren nejdůležitější vlastnost utiskujícího konceptuálního rámce. Cílem této práce je odpovědět si na otázku, jakým způsobem se logika dominance projevuje ve vytváření a fungování rezidenčních suburbií. V první části práce je představen ekofeminismus a je podán přehled několika jeho směrů, důraz je přitom kladen na sociální ekofeminismus a ekofeministickou filozofii Karen J. Warren. Dále je pro pochopení kontextu vysvětlen kapitalistický patriarchální systém a také je objasněna souvislost přírody a ženy, se kterou ekofeminismus pracuje. Další část práce se věnuje procesu suburbanizace a především rezidenční suburbanizace. V závěru textu je prostřednictvím několika výzkumů poukázáno na některé projevy logiky dominance v rezidenčních suburbiích a myšlenky sociálního ekofeminismu jsou tak uvedeny do praxe.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the school of thought and movement of ecofeminism. The ideas of ecofeminism are explained by the phenomena associated with the process of residential suburbanization, which is the current problem of Czech cities. Ecofeminism is not a unified school of thought, the term covers several different approaches, this thesis focuses on social ecofeminism. It deals closer with the social ecofeminist Karen J. Warren’s ideas and works with her concept of the logic of domination, which is, according to Warren, the most important characteristic of an oppressive conceptual framework. The aim of this thesis is to answer the question of how the logic of domination is reflected in the development and functioning of residential suburbs. First, the thesis introduces ecofeminism and presents an overview of some its schools of thought, the emphasis is put on social ecofeminism and Warren's ecofeminist philosophy. Second, the patriarchal capitalist system is explained to understand the context and it is also explained the connection between nature and women, with which ecofeminism works. The next part is devoted to the process of suburbanization, especially residential suburbanization. Finally, some manifestations of the logic of domination in residential suburbs are illustrated through several studies and thus the ideas of social ecofeminism are put into practice.
