The Social Construction of Yoga in the Workplace by Managers in Relation to the Management of Companies

Abstract:

Práce zkoumá sociální konstrukci jógy na pracovišti u manažerů. Cílem práce je zjistit, zda a jakým způsobem může být koncept jógy na pracovišti přínosný pro management a konkrétně pro samotné manažery. Je zjišťováno, zda je tento koncept využitelný pro manažery především v rámci duševní hygieny a k redukci pracovního stresu. V teoretické části je představen klíčový koncept sociální konstruktivismus a rovněž jeho aspekty kategorizace, stereotypizace a idealizace, od kterých se odvíjí dílčí výzkumné otázky. Další část je věnována charakteristice managementu, pracovnímu stresu a technikám duševní hygieny pro manažery. Výzkum je založený na kvalitativní strategii a je realizovaný formou polostrukturovaných rozhovorů. Získaná data jsou interpretována na základě otevřeného a axiálního kódování. Výsledkem práce je zjištění, že jóga na pracovišti je manažery konstruována jako tělesné cvičení, které může redukovat stres, avšak tento koncept je těžko aplikovatelný do praxe. Implementaci jógy na pracoviště brání především stereotypy a také aspekty idealizace. V závěru práce autorka podrobněji odpovídá na hlavní výzkumnou otázku a uvádí doporučení pro další výzkum a praxi.

Abstract:

The work examines the social construction of yoga in the workplace by managers. The aim of the thesis is to find whether and how the concept of yoga in the workplace can be helpful for the management and specifically for managers. It is focus on the way how the concept is useful for managers especially in the context of mental health and for reduce work stress. In the theoretical section are introduced the key concept such as the social construction and it’s aspects of categorization, stereotyping and idealization, which depends on the partial research questions. In the other section are describe management, work stress and techniques of mental hygiene for managers. The research is based on qualitative strategy and implemented through semi-structured interview. The obtained data interpreted on the basis of open and axial coding. The main finding is that yoga in the workplace managers constructed as physical exercise that can reduce stress, but this concept is hardly applicable in practice. Implementation of yoga to workplace defends especially manager’s stereotypes and aspects of idealization. In the end the author answers the main research question in detail and to makes some recommendations for future research and practice.
