Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se věnuje Brooku Taylorovi, anglickému matematikovi, jehož jméno nese slavný Taylorův polynom. Cílem je představit českému čtenáři jeho osobu a přínos na poli matematiky, a to prostřednictvím jeho nejslavnějšího spisu Methodus Incrementorum Directa et Inversa. K tomuto textu se práce obrací jako k pramennému materiálu a předkládá čtenáři první český překlad úvodních pasáží a kapitol. Zároveň na nich ukazuje dobové matematické postupy a konvence. Čtenář má tedy možnost nahlédnout do matematiky začátku 18. století a porovnat tehdejší postupy s nynějšími zvyklostmi.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis is dedicated to Brooke Taylor, the English mathematician whose name is given to the famous Taylor polynome. The aim is to introduce to the Czech reader his person and contribution to the field of mathematics, through his most famous work Methodus Incrementorum Directa et Inversa. The thesis turns to this text as a source material and presents the reader with the first Czech translation of the introductory passages and capitols. At the same time, it uses them to show contemporary mathematical practices and conventions. The reader is thus given a glimpse into the mathematics of the early 18th century and a comparison of the practices of the time with current conventions.
