Abstract:

Práce je věnována významné osobnosti popularizace buddhismu na Západě ? Martinu Novosadovi a to zejména jeho myšlenkovému vývoji. Hlavní důraz je kladen na analýzu jeho pojetí západní interpretace théravády. První část práce mapuje konkrétní vlivy, jež utvářely jeho poznání théravády v první fázi jeho života - v Evropě a v druhé fázi jeho života ? na Šrí Lance. Zásadní pozornost je věnována konkrétním představitelům západní interpretace buddhismu. Druhá část práce se zabývá především konkrétními Novosadovými texty, v nichž je patrná linka věnující se interpretaci buddhismu (a to primárně západní).

Abstract:

The work is devoded to Martin Novosad, the eminent personality of popularization of Buddhism in the West and especially to his intellectual development. The main emphasis is on the analysis of the concept of Western Théraváda interpretation. The first part deals with the concrete influences that shaped his understanding of Théraváda in the first phase of his life ? in Europe and on the seconf phase of his life ? in Šrí Lanka. While considerable attention is devoted to specific leaders Western interpretations of Buddhism. The second part of the thesis deals with Novosad´s specific texts, which show the line dedicated to the interpretation of Buddhism (primarily Western).
