Occupational Therapy Intervention with the Use of Reminiscence Therapy on Elderly Persons

Abstract:

Úvod: Vznik špatného duševního stavu či poruchy kognitivních funkcí se hojně vyskytují zejména u seniorů. Jednou z možných metod pro zlepšení těchto oblastí je terapie pomocí vzpomínek. Protože vzpomínky hrají důležitou roli v životě člověka. Cíl: Cílem bakalářské práce je poukázat na fakt, že je reminiscence přínosná pro seniory a má pozitivní vliv na psychiku člověka. Metodika: Práce je rozdělena na dvě části: praktickou a teoretickou. Teoretická část se zabývá bližším popisem oblastí, jako je ergoterapie (její definice, cíle, ergoterapeutický pracovník, ergoterapie v geriatrii), reminiscenční terapie (definice, vznik reminiscence, přístupy, reminiscenční aktivity, reminiscence u osob s demencí, přínos reminiscence, reminiscenční terapeut), stáří a stárnutí (adaptace na stáří, vymezení období stáří, změny ve stáří, komunikace se seniory, formy péče o seniory a kvalita života) a stručným popisem paměti. Praktická část popisuje intervenci s konkrétním klientem. Výsledky: U klientky jsme se snažili o zlepšení dosavadního psychického stavu, kognitivních funkcí a jemné motoriky. Ve všech oblastech došlo v průběhu terapie ke zlepšení. Bohužel před ukončením terapie se klientce zhoršil zdravotní stav souvisejí s její diagnózou. Důsledkem toho došlo i ke zhoršení psychického stavu. Klientka po několika dnech zemřela. Závěr: Hlavním zjištěním této práce je, že intervence pomocí reminiscenční terapie má pozitivní vliv na kvalitu života jednice a na jeho duševní stav.

Abstract:

Indroduction: The formation of a poor mental state or impaired cognitive functions occur especially in seniors. One of the possible methods for improving these areas is a therapy using their memories. Memories play an important role in a human life. Objectives: The aim of my theses is to point out the fact that the reminiscence is beneficial for seniors and its positive effect on a human psyche. Methods: This theses is divided into two parts - a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part deals with a more detailed description of the areas such as the occupational therapy (its definition, goals, occupational therapist, occupational therapy in geriatrics), the reminiscence therapy (definition, origin of reminiscence, approaches, reminiscence activities, reminiscence in people with dementia, benefit of reminiscence, reminiscence therapist), old age and aging (adaptation to old age, definition of old age, changes in old age, communication with seniors, forms of care for seniors and quality of life), and a brief description of memory. The practical part describes the intervention with a particular client. Findings: We tried to improve the current mental state, cognitive functions and fine motor skills of one chosen client. All these areas improved during her therapy. Unfortunately, before the end of therapy, the client's health deteriorated due to her diagnosis. As a result, her mental state deteriorated as well. The client died after a few days. Conclusion: The main finding of this work is that the intervention using the reminiscence therapy has a positive effect on the individual's quality of life and the mental state.
