Abstract:

Ústředním tématem diplomové práce je důležitost přátelství pro dobrý život, tato problematika bude sledována z perspektivy období antiky, a to konkrétně u Platóna, Aristotela a Epikúra. K přátelství budeme přistupovat z etického i z politického hlediska, bude pro nás důležitý jak etický, tak politický kontext. Klíčovým cílem je objasnit, proč je z pohledu Platóna, Aristotela a Epikúra přátelství hodnotné a pro kompletně šťastný a naplněný lidský život nepostradatelné. Pojímání přátelství se u uvedených myslitelů liší, bude tedy provedena analýza a komparace jejich přístupu k tématu přátelství a toho, co pro každého z nich přátelství znamená. Pokud jde o literaturu, v platónské části práce budeme vycházet primárně z dialogu Lysis, přičemž soustředíme svou pozornost na obtížnější pasáže a otázky, jež se v tomto dialogu objevují. V aristotelské části navážeme na Platónovo pojetí přátelství v Lysidovi a bude provedena důkladná analýza Aristotelova pojímání fenoménu přátelství v Etice Nikomachově. Postupně bude objasněno, v jakých ohledech se Aristotelova koncepce přátelství Platónově koncepci podobá a v jakých se naopak, třeba i diametrálně, liší a z jakého důvodu. Třetí a poslední kapitola, jež se zaměřuje na Epikúra, přinese srovnání východisek a závěrů týkajících se přátelství, s nimiž přichází Epikúros. V této kapitole nám budou oporou převážně Epikúrovy spisy zachované u Diogena Laertského. Důraz bude v práci kladen také na vztah přátelství a ctnosti a naší pozornosti neunikne ani otázka filantropie a egoismu ve vztahu k druhým lidem. Významná pro nás bude též problematika vzájemného přátelského sdílení a náklonnosti, kterou k sobě přátelé pociťují.

Abstract:

The central theme of the diploma thesis is the importance of friendship for a good life. This issue will be monitored from the perspective of the antiquity period, specifically at Plato, Aristotle and Epicurus. We will approach the friendship from an ethical and a political point of view, both the ethical and the political context will be important to us. The central aim is to explain why Plato, Aristotle and Epicurus consider friendship valuable and for completely happy fulfilled human life indispensable. Conception of friendship differs at the mentioned thinkers, therefore, their approach to the friendship and what it means to each of them will be analysed and compared. In the part of thesis concerned on Plato we will build on the dialogue Lysis, we will also focus on the difficult passages and questions that arise in this dialogue. In the chapter concerned on Aristotle we will come out of Plato's concept of friendship in Lysis, in this chapter Aristotle's conception of the phenomenon of friendship in Nicomachean Ethics will be thoroughly analysed. It will gradually be explained how Aristotle's concept of friendship is similar to Plato's concept, and how it differs and why. The third and final chapter, which focuses on Epicurus, will bring a comparison of Epicurus´ solution and conclusions related to the friendship. In this chapter, we will mostly work with Epicurus´ writings preserved by Diogenes Laertius. Thesis will also focus on the relationship of friendship and virtue. Our attention will be next concentrated on the question of philanthropy and egoism in relation to other people. We will also be interested in the issue of mutual friendly sharing and affection that friends feel to each other.
