Leveraging Corporate Power: Responses to Reducing Scope-3 Emissions in Multinational Supply Chains

Abstract:

This exploratory qualitative research focuses on the gap in the literature on the strategies and practices that companies in the value chains of multinationals undertake in reducing their scope-3 emissions. The following research question has been developed: How are the different actors in the supply chain of large multinational corporations responding to the current shift from Scope-1 to Scope-3 emission reduction, and why do they choose to do so? To gain an analytical understanding of the motivations and activities of these companies, the analysis discusses what factors are influential in generating incentive within the value chain, which companies have a leverage to create this incentive and what role the government can play in reducing scope-3 emission.
