Analysis of physical activity of selected personal city districts of Ostrava and its surroundings

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je zhodnotit úroveň pohybové aktivity vzorku dospělých obyvatel z městských částí Ostravy a okolí a zjistit, jak souvisí fyzické prostředí s pohybovou aktivitou a indexem tělesné hmotnosti. Pro diplomovou práci byla zvolena forma výzkumu založena na strukturovaném dotazníku. Výzkumné šetření formou dotazníku umožňuje získat informace od vybrané skupiny osob anonymně a má několik specifických výhod, mezi něž patří srozumitelnost pro respondenty, anonymita, ekonomičnost, pružnost zpracování a možnost oslovení co největšího počtu lidí. Respondenti byli získávání příležitostným náborem z řad studentů a zaměstnanců Ostravské univerzity a dalších komunit v rámci městských částí Ostravy formou emailové korespondence. Sběr dat probíhal formou online dotazníku, který obsahoval informovaný souhlas (první stránka), mezinárodní dotazník pohybové aktivity IPAQ (Craig a kol., 2003) a dotazník NEWS (Frank a kol., 2005) pro zhodnocení aspektů fyzického prostředí. Dále dotazník obsahoval položky na hodnocení sociodemografických údajů respondentů. Dotazník vyplnilo 217 respondentů, z nichž pouze 52 % (n=113) řádně vyplnilo dotazník ANEWS a dotazník IPAQ. Z počtu 217 respondentů 49 z nich vyplnilo pouze zanedbatelné množství otázek (n<5), další se zaměřili pouze na dotazník ANEWS, či IPAQ. Ze 113 respondentů, kteří vyplnili dotazník až dokonce, bylo 84 žen. Výsledky v diplomové práci potvrzují, že muži jsou celkově aktivnější než ženy a vykonávají více intenzivní pohybové aktivity. Muži také vykonávají více pohybové aktivity v zaměstnání. Bylo částečně potvrzeno, že s věkem klesá úroveň pohybové aktivity, protože ve věkových kategoriích do 60 let byla pohybová aktivita vyšší, u věkových kategorií nad 61 let pak výrazně nižší. V diplomové práci bylo zjištěno, že lidé žijící mimo město mají nižší míru celkové pohybové aktivity než lidé žijící ve městech. Lidé žijící v historickém centru města mají nejvyšší míru chůze a nejnižší míru sedavosti. Naopak nejvíce sedavosti reportovali lidé žijící v tradičních čtvrtích v okolí centra města. Nejnižší míru střední intenzity pohybové aktivity reportovali lidé žijící ve vícegeneračních rodinných domech a nejvyšší pak v družstevních městských domech. Nejvyšší míru vysoké intenzity pohybové aktivity reportovali lidé žijící v jednogeneračních rodinných domech, naopak nejnižší míru této pohybové aktivity reportovali obyvatelé žijící ve vícegeneračních rodinných domech. U aktivního transportu byla nejnižší míra této aktivity u obyvatel žijících ve vícegeneračních rodinných domech, naopak nejvyšší míru aktivního transportu reportovali obyvatelé v družstevních městských domech. Potvrdila se hypotéza č. 2, že lidé žijící mimo město mají nižší míru celkové pohybové aktivity než lidé žijící ve městech. Žádné asociace s BMI a typ obydlí a typ zástavby nebyly statisticky signifikantní. Naše výsledky ukázaly, že úroveň pohybové aktivity obyvatel Ostravska se do značné míry liší v závislostech na fyzickém prostředí, ve kterém žijí, a je nutné dále obyvatele motivovat k pohybové aktivitě příznivými podmínkami fyzického prostředí.

Abstract:

The aim of the diploma thesis is to evaluate the level of physical activity of a sample of adults from urban areas of Ostrava and its surroundings and to find out how the physical environment is related to physical activity and body mass index. The form of research based on a structured questionnaire was chosen for the diploma thesis. The research survey in the form of a questionnaire makes it possible to obtain information from selected groups of people anonymously and several specific benefits, including clarity for respondents, anonymity, economy, flexibility of processing and the ability to reach as many people as possible. Respondents were recruited by opportunistic recruitment from among students and employees of the University of Ostrava and other communities within the city districts of Ostrava in the form of email correspondence. Data collection takes the form of an online questionnaire containing informed consent (first page), an IPAQ international physical activity questionnaire (Craig et. al., 2003) and a NEWS (Sallis, 2002) questionnaire for the evaluation of aspects of the physical environment. Furthermore, the questionnaire contained items for the evaluation of respondents' socio-demographic data. The questionnaire was completed by 217 respondents, of which only 52% (n = 113) duly completed the ANEWS questionnaire and the IPAQ questionnaire. Out of the number of 217 respondents, 49 of them filled in only a negligible number of questions (n <5), others only either the ANEWS or IPAQ questionnaire. Of the 113 respondents who completed the questionnaire, as many as 84 were women. Based on the results, it was found that the level of physical activity decreases with age and that men are generally more active than women, performing more intense physical activity and more physical activity within employment. The lowest level of moderate intensity physical activity was reported by people living in multi-family houses and the highest level by those living in cooperative town houses. The highest level of high intensity physical activity was reported by people living in single-family houses, while the lowest rate of this physical activity was reported by residents living in multi-family houses. In active transport, the lowest level of this activity was among the inhabitants living in multi-family houses, on the contrary, the highest level of active transport was reported by the inhabitants in cooperative town houses. It was confirmed that people living outside the city have a lower rate of overall physical activity than people living in cities. No associations with BMI and housing type and development type were statistically significant. Our results have shown that the level of physical activity of the residents in the Ostrava region varies to a large extent depending on the physical environment in which they live, and it is necessary to further motivate the residents to be physically activite by creating favorable conditions within the physical environment.
