Darwin awards: self-destructive behavior as an Internet meme

Abstract:

The master´s thesis deals with description of the issue and portraying the main topics of internet memes. It is primarily targeted on consumers of these internet-famous pictures, videos, and other online materials. Theoretical part consists of two parts – dividing the memes and their classification and its self-destructive behavior on the internet. The empirical part of the thesis contains results of the qualitative method used for interviews with people who watch and share self-destructive behavior content between them and others.

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práca sa zaoberá popísaním problematiky a vyobrazením hlavných tém internetových mémov. Zameraná je primárne na konzumentov a šíriteľov týchto internetových obrázkov, videí a podobne. V teoretickej časti je popísané rozdelenie a klasifikácia internetových mémov a sebadeštruktívneho chovania sa na internete a jeho uvedenie do tejto teórie. V empirickej časti práce bolo zisťované pomocou kvalitatívnej metódy čiastočne riadených rozhovorov, prečo ľudia sledujú sebadeštruktívne chovanie a prečo ho šíria medzi sebou ďalej. Rovnako aj prečo tieto obsahové materiály sú chápané ako mémy a šírené virálne a virtuálne.
