Private equity as an alternative source of funding

Abstract:

The aim of the graduation thesis is a characteristic of an alternative source of financing in the form of private equity capital. The work deals with the explanation of the issue, its historical development, situation in Europe and it describes the private equity sector on the Slovak market. It is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is focused on the theoretical background of private equity investments, terminology, industry characteristics, definitions, and subjects operating on the market and categories and the cycle of investments. The second chapter presents the historical development of the industry, in particular, on the territory of the United States of America as the home country, it points out its peaks and falls, and adopted laws that affected it. The next section deals with the current development in Europe and the fourth describes the sector in the Slovak Republic. The work points out the issue of the development of private equity in Slovakia.

Abstract:

Cieľom záverečnej diplomovej práce je charakteristika alternatívneho zdroja financovania vo forme private equity kapitálu. Práca sa zaoberá oboznámením sa s problematikou, jej historickým vývojom, situáciou v Európe a popisuje sektor private equity na slovenskom trhu. Je rozdelená do štyroch kapitol. Prvá kapitola je zameraná na teoretické pozadie private equity investícií, terminológiu, charakteristiku odvetvia, definície, subjekty pôsobiace na trhu a kategórie a cyklus investícií. Druhá kapitola predstavuje historický vývoj odvetvia najmä na území Spojených štátov amerických ako domovskej krajiny, poukazuje na jeho vrcholy a pády a prijaté zákony, ktoré ho ovplyvnili. Ďalšia časť sa zaoberá aktuálnym vývojom v Európe a štvrtá popisuje sektor v Slovenskej republike. Práca poukazuje na problematiku vývoja private equity na Slovensku.
