Extreme Hurdle Races as a Social Phenomenon

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce je zjistit, jak extrémní překážkové závody ovlivňují komunitu účastníků Spartan Race a jaký mají pro ně tyto závody význam. Teoretická část se zabývá sportem z pohledu sociologie. Kromě toho se zaobírá motivací, herními prožitky a také tím, jaký má sport význam pro společnost. Teorie se věnuje otázce, proč se extrémní překážkový závod Spartan Race stal fenoménem dnešní doby. Dále je popsán jeho vznik, typy závodů a účel, pro který byl založen. V závěru teoretické části je přiblížené téma masové komunikace a kapitola - diskuze, kde je porovnávána tato práce s pracemi ostatních studentů. Praktická část byla provedena formou kvantitativní metodologie, za pomoci dotazníku vlastní konstrukce, který byl vyplněn závodníky Spartan Race.

Abstract:

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to find out, how the extreme obstacle races affect the community of Spartan Race participants and how important are these races for the participants. The theoretical part deals with this sport from the sociological point of view. Besides that the theoretical part also deals with motivation, game experience and also with the possible importance of this sport for society. The theory deals with the question why the extreme obstacle race Spartan Race has become a phenomenon of today's time. Later its origin, types of races and the purpose for which it was founded are described. At the end of the theoretical part is closely explained the topic of mass communication, and chapter including discussion with comparison the thesis with other students. The practical part was done in the form of a quantitative methodology, by using a questionnaire of our own design with Spartan Race racers.
