Greek Catholic Church in Czechoslovakia: the effect of abolition and restoration of the church to its clergy in 1968-1989

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je zjistit, jaké dopady mělo zrušení řeckokatolické církve roku 1950 a její znovuobnovení v roce 1968 na její činnost v letech 1968-1989. Konkrétně bude tato práce zaměřena na situaci řeckokatolického duchovenstva a jeho vliv na dějinné události. Nejdříve je třeba deskriptivně nastínit historické okolnosti zrušení církve, důvody obnovení a samotný akt uznání církve. V další části pak budou vymezeny nejdůležitější okamžiky a události spojené s jednotlivými složkami duchovenstva, tedy internace (tzv. akce 100), politické procesy s nejvýše postavenými představiteli apod. Ve třetí části bude nastíněna problematika cesty ke kněžskému povolání v období normalizace. Celá práce pak má detailněji zachytit osudy řeckokatolických kněží, biskupů a řeholníků, a také rozšířit povědomí o této často dosti opomíjené církvi.

Abstract:

The aim of this work is to find out the impacts of the abolition of the Greek Catholic Church in 1950 and its restoration in 1968 to its operation in 1968-1989. This work is primarily dedicated to the situation of the Greek Catholic clergy and its influence to the historical events. Firstly, it is necessary to descriptively outline the historical circumstances of the abolition of the church, the reasons for its restoration and the act of recognition of the church itself. The second part delimits the most important moments and events connected to the individual components of the clergy which means the internment (so called Action 100), political trial with the high representatives etc. The third part is dedicated to the problems of the way to the priestly vocation in the normalization period. The whole work is supposed to depict in detail fates of Greek Catholic priests, bishops and monks and also broaden the general awareness of this rather neglected church.
