Regional public transport: Case study of Portuguese railway network

Abstract:

Diplomová práce na téma Regionální hromadná doprava na příkladu portugalské železniční sítě má přinést zorientování se v dostupné literatuře a s její pomocí popsat vývoj portugalské železnice od samotných počátku po současnost. Zvláštní důraz je kladen na regionální dopravu ve vnitrozemských oblastech, které bychom mohli obecně nazvat jako venkovské. Práce je strukturována nejprve do teoretické části, kde je s pomocí literárních zdrojů nastíněn znalostní teoretický základ. Pozornost je věnována vztahu hromadné dopravy a regionu a problémovým aspektům spojeným s takovou formou nabízené služby. Jelikož se práce ve své závěrečné fázi dotýká i vlivu veřejnosti na rozhodování o veřejných záležitostech, je nutné definovat i pojmy jako občanský sektor a participace. Významnou částí této diplomové práce je kapitola věnovaná historickému vývoji portugalské železniční sítě. Dále je popisován současný stav včetně přiblížení úlohy jednotlivých společností zasahující do tématiky. Poté se již práce orientuje na železniční dopravu na severu Portugalska, v regionu Norte. Sem je také situována případová studie, která přibližuje stav železniční tratě Linha do Tua.

Abstract:

The thesis on regional public transport on the example of the Portuguese railway network is to aim for the available literature and its use to describe the evolution of the Portuguese railway from the very beginning to the present. Accent is placed on regional transportation in the inland areas, that could generally be called as rural. The work is dividend first into a theoretical part, where the theoretical basis is scetched with the help of literary sources. Attention is given to public transport and the region and the problematic aspects of such services offered. It also is necessary to define concepts such as civil sector and participation because the thesis in its final part handles with the civic engagement and its influence on the decisions on public matters. A chapter focused on the historical development of the Portuguese railway network is an important part of this thesis. The current situation including the roles of the parties is also described there. Then the thesis focuses on rail transport in the north of Portugal, in the Norte region. A case study that describes the situation of the Tua line.
