Adolescent Romantic Relationships in Relation to Personality Strengths

Abstract:

Předkládaná studie zkoumala především vztah mezi 24 silnými stránkami charakteru u 149 adolescentních respondentek, jejich shodou se silnými stránkami jejich současných a ideálních partnerů a spokojeností respondentek v partnerském vztahu. Výzkumná studie využila následujících měřících nástrojů: VIA-120 (zkrácenou verzi VIA-IS Petersona a Seligmana) a Rusbultové Investment Model Scale. Součástí testové baterie byl také vlastní dotazník, zjišťující demografické údaje a obsahující jedinou otevřenou položku; a seznam 24 charakterových silných stránek, ze kterého respondentky vybíraly silné stránky svého současného a ideálného partnera. Silnými stránkami respondentek byly nejčastěji integrita, láska, laskavost, smysl pro krásu a statečnost. Prokázalo se, že na spokojenost respondentek v partnerském vztahu nemá vliv míra shody v charakterových silných stránkách ani s partnerem současným, ani s partnerem ideálním. Shoda současného a ideálního partnera však spokojenost velmi mírně ovlivňuje. Respondentky, které ve svém partnerském vztahu pociťují nejvyšší míru spokojenosti, skórovaly nejvýše v následujících silných stránkách: láska, integrita, statečnost, laskavost a vhled. Základní obsahová analýza jediné otevřené položky přinesla následující zjištění: respondentky nejčastěji charakterizovaly spokojený vztah pojmy důvěra (N = 58), láska (N = 33), pochopení (N = 33), tolerance (N = 32) a sdílení volného času (N = 41).

Abstract:

The study examined mainly the relationship between 24 character strengths at 149 female adolescent respondents, the accordance with the character strengths of their present-day and ideal partners and respondents‘ love relationship satisfaction. The study used following methods: VIA-120 (the shortened vision of Peterson and Seligman’s VIA-IS) and Rusbult’s Investment Model Scale. One part of the test battery was also a questionnaire made by the author, which asked about demographic data and included the only open question item; and a list of 24 character strengths, out of which the respondents chose the strengths of their present-day and ideal partners. The respondents‘ strengths were most often: integrity, love, kindness, appretiation of beauty and bravery. The results showed, that the extent of accordance in the character strengths neither with the present-day nor with the ideal partner had an effect on repondents‘ relationship satisfaction. The accordance of the present-day and the ideal partners affects the satisfaction slightly, though. The repondents who feel the most satisfied in their relationship scored the highest in the following strenghts: love, integrity, bravery, kindness and wisdom. Basic content analysis of the only open question item brought following findings: to describe a satisfying relationship the respondents used these terms most often: trust (N = 58), love (N = 33), understanding (N = 33), tolerance (N = 32), spending free time together (N = 41).
