Dynamics of Multifamily family business - Exploratory case study

Abstract:

Obsah práce propojuje teorii rodinných firem a jejích specifik se specifiky firem, v nichž není zainteresována pouze jedna rodina, ale dvě a více rodin, které nejsou vzájemně pokrevně spřízněny. Tato forma je nazývána jako tzv. Multifamily family business. Téma multirodinných firem je dosud nedostatečně prozkoumané, což vyvolává řadu nejasností. Jde například o otázku, zda je možné za multirodinnou firmu považovat i společnost, jež byla založena několika nepříbuznými majiteli, kteří se díky dlouhodobým kontaktům považují takřka za členy rodiny. Exploratorní případovou studií byl proveden výzkum na společnosti, kterou vlastní celkem sedmnáct majitelů, z nichž žádný nemá v této firmě majoritní rozhodovací podíl. Vedle převážně nepříbuzenských vztahů mezi zakladateli existují příbuzenské vztahy celkem u dvou pokrevně nepříbuzných rodin. Výsledkem šetření je zjištění, že z hlediska teorie rodinných a multirodinných firem je možné i takovou firmu, jejíž zakladatelé nejsou všichni pokrevně příbuzní, považovat za multirodinnou.

Abstract:

This Master’s Thesis is concentrated on the theory of family firms in comparisons with multifamily family businesses where is not only one but where are two or more families included. The theory of multifamily family firms is not yet analyzed enough and it remains unclear. For example we can ask if we can consider as a multifamily family business a type of firm, which was founded by several unrelated owners who has been very close friends for many years, though, and who calls themselves a family. This exploratory case study focuses on a company owned by seventeen owners where non of them has got a major ownership interest. Only two groups of these owners are blood related – one group includes two brothers and the second one is formed by two cousins and a brother-in-law. In conclusion we can say that according to the family and multifamily family firms theory, this kind of firm is also possible to consider as a multifamily family business.
