A Portrait Photography in the Light of Roger Scrutons argument

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce Fotografický portrét ve světle argumentu R. Scrutona se zabývá otázkou hodnoty a uměleckosti portrétní fotografie. Výchozím zdrojem je esej Fotografie a reprezentace (1981), jejímž autorem je Roger Scruton. Práce obsahuje pět kapitol. V první kapitole autorka ustaluje terminologii užitou v Scrutonově argumentu. Kapitola druhá se zabývá historicko-uměleckým vývojem portrétní fotografie. V kapitole třetí je představena portrétní fotografie jako oblast zájmu. Čtvrtá kapitola je věnována vybraným pasážím stati Fotografie a reprezentace a v kapitole následující jsou představeny oponující argumenty. V poslední kapitole se autorka věnuje demonstraci představených argumentů na společném díle Georgie O´Keeffové a Alfreda Stieglitze. Práce si klade za cíl představit vybrané argumenty, které popírají podstatu argumentu R. Scrutona, a na jejich základě pak vytváří argument obhajující uměleckou a estetickou hodnotu portrétní fotografie.

Abstract:

The following bachelor thesis A Portrait Photography in the Light of Scruton´s Arguments deals with a question of the value and the artistry of portrait photography. The main source of this thesis is Scruton´s essay Photography and Representation (1981). The thesis consists of five parts. In the first part, student deals with a terminology used in Scruton´s argumentation. The second part is focused on the historical and artistic development of portrait photography and deals with the portrait photography as a field of study. The third chapter is focused on the chosen parts from the Scruton´s essay Photography and representations. The fourth part is dedicated to Scruton´s opposite contradictory argumentations. The final part is aimed on the mentioned above arguments, that are presented at the joint work of Georgia O´Keeffe a Alfred Stieglitz. Therefore, the central goal of the work is to show arguments that deny the core of Scruton´s argumentation, and based on their base creates arguments for the photography, which can find an artistic on aesthetic value of portrait photography.
