Abstract:

Russia’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) became a subject of long and heated debates during the last several years that was definitely not accidental. Currently, there is ongoing ‘full speed’ discussion of the most problematic questions and perspectives of such membership. The key “Problems and perspectives of Russia’s membership in the World Trade Organization: 2000-2003” was chosen in accordance to its indisputable importance and actuality. The aim of the work is to analyze the issue on the basis of the certain arguments and draw certain conclusion about the possibility of Russia’s future membership in the WTO. The thesis will raise the question about steps that should be taken, in order that Russia as a whole and the Russian business in particular (in their present condition), actually benefit from the membership. The present paper will also try to analyze the possibility of avoiding/minimizing losses as Russian market becomes more open for foreign competition. This issue is perceived to the most painful for the Russian political elite and the society. In this regard, the given work aims to outline set of problems, which Russia on its way to the WTO membership faced or will face in future as a result of joining the organization.
