Development of sedimentary environments near Kolnovice after the deposition of glaciofluvial sequence

Abstract:

Prostor jesenické oblasti, kde se nachází studovaná pískovna Kolnovice, byl ve středním pleistocénu opakovaně zasažen kontinentálním ledovcem, který zde po sobě zanechal mocné ledovcové uloženiny. V následujících chladných obdobích naopak tento prostor zaledněn nebyl a vytvořila se zde rozsáhlá periglaciální zóna, na kterou byly vázány procesy, tvary a sedimenty, které jsou hlavním předmětem studia této práce. Pro studium sedimentů byla použita granulometrická analýza, pomocí níž byly v kombinaci s texturními vlastnostmi sedimentů definovány litofacie, které dále posloužily k interpretaci sedimentů z hlediska jejich vzniku. Periglaciální facie byly zkoumány ve třech odlišných prostředích, a to v centru hluboké deprese v západní části pískovny, na okraji hluboké deprese v jižní části pískovny a v mělké depresi ve východní části pískovny. K interpretaci byl také vytvořen model pískovny, zachycující prostorové rozložení mocností postglacifluviálních sedimentů. Diskutováno je především přibližné stratigrafické zařazení jednotlivých typů sedimentů a paleoklimatické podmínky při jejich vzniku. V neposlední řadě je diskutována granulometrie kolnovických spraší (sprašových hlín) a srovnávána se sprašemi na severní a jižní Moravě, v českém Slezsku a v jižním Polsku.

Abstract:

The Jeseník region, where the studied Kolnovice sandpit is located, has repeatedly been covered by an ice sheet during the Middle Pleistocene, which has left thick glacial sediments. In following cold periods the Jeseník region was not glaciated and an extensive periglacial zone was formed here, which links processes, forms and sediments, that are the main subject of this thesis. The grain-size analysis was used for the study of sediments and with combination of texture characteristics the lithofacies were defined, which further allowed for interpretation of sediment origin. Periglacial facies were studied in three different environments, namely at the centre of deep depression in the western part of sandpit, at the margin of deep depression in the southern part of sandpit and in shallow depression in the eastern part of sandpit. A sandpit model was also created for interpreting the spatial distribution of the postglaciofluvial sediments thickness. The approximate stratigraphic classification of sediment types and palaeoclimatic conditions during their deposition has been discussed. Furthermore, the grain-size distribution of loess (loess-like) sediments from Kolnovice has been compared with loess from northern and southern Moravia, Czech Silesia and southern Poland.
