Stereotyping of political party voters based on imagined contact, ideological distance, and perceived threat

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá stereotypizací voličů politických stran. Zkoumala jsem konkrétně vliv ideologické vzdálenosti od strany a vnímaného ohrožení stranou na stereotypizaci jejích voličů. Dále jsem zjišťovala, zda bude stereotypizaci snižovat představený pozitivní kontakt s voliči a zda bude tento vztah moderován vnímaným ohrožením. V neposlední řadě mě zajímalo, zda bude rozdíl v míře stereotypizace voličů různých stran a které stereotypy budou nejvíce generalizované. Výsledky ukázaly vliv vnímaného ohrožení na stereotypizaci napříč stranami. Vliv ideologické vzdálenosti se projevil jen u jedné strany. Představený kontakt neměl navzdory očekáváním na stereotypizaci žádný vliv.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the stereotyping of voters. I looked at the impact of the ideological distance from a party and the perceived threat posed by a party on the stereotyping of said party’s voters. I then examined if imagined contact with voters will decrease their stereotyping and if this relationship will be moderated by perceived threat. I also looked at the differences in the degree of stereotyping between voters of different parties and at which stereotypes were the most generalized. The results show an effect of perceived threat across parties. Ideological distance had an effect only in the case of one party and the imagined contact had no effect.
