Mechanical loading of wood: from cell wall to a tree

Abstract:

Ústředním tématem habilitační práce je mechanické namáhání dřeva. Práce má dvě základní části: i) úvodní část, která stručně pojednává o komplexitě dřeva z pohledu mechanické analýzy a současně uvozuje dvě základní metody, které ve své práci autor používá; ii) výběr z článků, který ukazuje část z publikačního portfolia autora, přičemž k němu přistupuje tak, aby se mechanická analýza dřeva odehrávala na různých úrovních hierarchického složení dřeva, tedy tak, jak napovídá název samotné práce, a současně, aby ukázala publikační aktivitu autora od samotných začátků po relativní současnost. Ve výběru z článků se rovněž objevují dva nerecenzované texty, které se dřevem zabývají, ale které měly čistě popularizační účel. V „závěru“ úvodní části je rovněž uvedeno zamyšlení, do kterých míst v oboru „Materiálové inženýrství dřeva“ lze případně směřovat své úsilí k tomu, aby tento obor mohl plně rozvinout svůj potenciál.

Abstract:

The central topic of the habilitation thesis is the mechanical loading of wood. The thesis has two main parts: i) an introductory section that briefly discusses the complexity of wood from the perspective of mechanical analysis, while at the same time introducing the two main methods used by the author in his work; ii) a selection of articles that shows part of the author's publication portfolio, approaching it in such a way that the mechanical analysis of wood takes place at different levels of the hierarchical composition of wood, i.e. as the title of the thesis itself suggests, and, at the same time, to show the author's publication activity from the very beginning to the relative present. The selection of articles also includes two unreviewed texts dealing with wood, but which were purely for popularization purposes. The "conclusion" of the introductory section also provides a reflection on where in the field of "Materials Engineering of Wood" one can possibly direct one's efforts to enable the field to reach its full potential.
