Consequences of scepticism and agnosticism of David Hume in his conception of the objective reality

Abstract:

Tato práce, která má název Důsledky skepse a agnosticismu Davida Huma v jeho pojetí objektivní reality, je rozdělena na dvě části. Po úvodu následuje vymezení čtyř základních pojmů, které jsou pro tuto práci stěžejní, a to jsou pojmy empirismus, skepticismus, agnosticismus a objektivní realita. Dále práce přibližuje Humovu terminologii, se kterou se v jeho díle nejčastěji setkáváme. Následují projevy skepse a agnosticismu ve filozofii Davida Huma a kritika kauzality a jejích principů. Ve druhé části nastupuje kritika vědy a přírodních zákonů, kdy přichází Hume se svým iracionalismem a empirismem a boří všechna dogmata tehdejší filosofie svojí skepsí vůči rozumovým schopnostem, existenci vůbec a tvrdí, že veškeré naše poznání pochází z našeho smyslového vnímání a nikdy si tak nemůžeme být jisti jeho věrohodností. Následuje skepse vůči vnějšímu světu, existenci, prostoru a času a také proti materiální a duchovní substanci, kde jeho skepse vrcholí. Na otázku, zda můžeme poznat objektivní realitu, Hume odpovídá, že neví a nemůže vědět.

Abstract:

This thesis, which is named Consequences of scepticism and agnosticism of David Hume in his conception of the objective reality, is divided into two main parts. After the introduction there are the four main terms that are essential for this work: empiricism, scepticism, agnosticism and the objective reality. What follows is Hume´s terminology regarding his philosophy and with which we will be working in this thesis and the literature used in this work. Then the work deals with the scepticism and agnosticism of David Hume. Then it deals with Hume´s conception of the causality, on which the modern sciences were based according to his philosophy, and it also deals with the main terms of the principles of causality. Part two deals with the criticism of the modern science and its natural laws that were based solely on rationalism. Hume breaks this persuasion with his irrationalism and empiricism and he cancels all the dogmas of the philosophy of that time with his scepticism against the reason and existence itself and regards all of our recognition to be the product of our senses, of which validity we can never be sure. What then follows is his scepticism against the external world and existence itself. He is also sceptical against our ability to recognize space and time, material and spiritual substance, which is a climax of his scepticism. So the question whether we can recognize the objective reality Hume answers that he does not know and he can never ever know that.
