Creativity and selected aspects of mental health

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá vztahem uměleckého nadání, duševního zdraví a duševní nemoci. Teoretická část se zaměřuje na definici pojmu a přehled dosavadních výzkumů v oblasti kreativity, duševního zdraví a možného vztahu kreativity a psychopatologie. Z vlastního výzkumu se ve shodě s literaturou vyplývá u umělecké populace vyšší míra schizotypních vlastností, na škále neobvyklé zážitky a vyšší míra neuroticismu. Dále byla zvýšená škála otevřenost vůči zkušenostem a snížený skór přívětivosti. Nebylo dosaženo výrazného rozdílu v porovnání s kontrolní skupinou v míře duševního zdraví a odolnosti typu Sense of Coherence. Na škále životní spokojenosti umělecká populace skóruje níže. Výzkum byl realizován na vzorku umělecké populace se zaměřením na malbu a jejich párovým doplněním (odpovídající věk a pohlaví) vznikla kontrolní skupina, která neudávala zvýšenou míru uměleckých zájmů (N=66). Respondentům byl také zadán test kreativity a celá baterie testů byla administrována v rámci osobního setkání.

Abstract:

The submitted diploma thesis deals with the relationship between artistic talent and mental health. The theoretical part aims to define creativity and outlines present research in the field of creativity, mental health and the possible relationship with psychopathology. The results of my own research as well as published literature shows a higher lever of schizotypy, expecially on a Unusual experiences scale. Also there is an higher level of Neuroticism between artistic population, higher level of Openess to experiences and lower level of Agreeableness. It was found that there is no significant difference on a Mental Health Scale and resilience of the Sense of Coherence type. On the Life satisfaction scale is artistic population lower than control group. The research was performed on an artistic population specialized in painting and matched with a control group of the same age and sex. The control group was selected from a population of people who were not interested in art (N=66). Respondents were asked to do a creativity test as well and all tests were administrated in person.
