Analysis of activities and theoretical approaches of Aaron Schwartz, the Cypherpunk and the hacktivism movement Anonymous in the case of internet freedom

Abstract:

Svoboda na internetu do jisté míry stále neexistuje, ovšem někteří jednotlivci či organizace se na tomto boji výrazně podíleli. Všechny zkoumané subjekty v této diplomové práci spojuje jejich záliba v programování a hackingu, která u nich následně vyústila v aktivistické hnutí a manifesty v rámci svobody internetu. Případný čtenář je seznámen s historií internetu, úvodem do kyberkultury a také dřívějšími teoriemi kyberprostoru a jeho svobody. Následně je zde popsán vznik a hlavní ideologie hacktivistického hnutí Anonymous, včetně analýzy vybraných operací, dále teorie a veřejné aktivity Aarona Schwartze, přezdívaného také jako „zázračné dítě internetu“ a následně ideologie a aktivity hnutí Cypherpunk, které je zaměřeno na soukromí a anonymitu v kyberprostoru. Tato práce si klade za cíl analyzovat jejich aktivistickou činnost, teoretické přístupy k otázkám sdílení dat, soukromí a cenzuře internetu a také případný vliv na jeho fungování v praxi.

Abstract:

Freedom on the Internet to some extent still does not exist, however, some individuals or organizations have played a major role in this fight. All the subjects examined in this diploma thesis combine their hobby in programming and hacking, which subsequently resulted in activist movements and manifestations within the framework of the freedom of the Internet. Any reader is familiar with the history of the Internet, an introduction to cyberculture as well as earlier theories of cyberspace and its freedom. It then describes the origins and main ideology of the Anonymous hacking movement, including the analysis of selected operations, the theory and public activities of Aaron Schwartz, also known as the "Internet´s own boy," followed by Cypherpunk's ideology and activities that focus on privacy and anonymity in cyberspace . This work aims to analyze their activist activity, the theoretical approaches to data sharing, privacy and censorship of the Internet, as well as the potential impact on its functioning in practice.
