Progressive assimilation and devoicing in German - interferences of czech students of german language

Abstract:

The topic of this thesis is progressive assimilation and devoicing in German. This work also deals with how this phenomen is expressed by Czech native speakers who are studying German. To analyze this, the comparison of Czech and German assimilation was done. The theoretical frame of this work defines fundamental terms which are connected to this topic (e.g. co articulation and assimilation). Other phonetic symbols which are necessary to know for understanding this topic are the phonological opposition fortis-lenis, terminal devoicing etc. The last part of the theoretical frame is focused on German and Czech assimilation and its specifics which are compared altogether. Based on this comparison it was drawn what pronunciation mistakes might be made by Czech native speakers studying German and the hypothesis was set; students who are studying German would tend to Czech assimilation. The content of the empirical part was a research done with students of ninth grade at a high school in Brno. The aim of research was to learn whether students incline to Czech or German assimilation while speaking German. It was also necessary to analyze data and verify or disconfirm the hypothesis. The hypothesis was not verified. The discussion about possible causes of this can be found in the conclusion as well as other potential topics for further research in this field.

Abstract:

Tématem této bakalářské práce je progresivní asimilace neznělosti a ztráta znělosti v němčině a jak se tento fenomén projevuje u českých rodilých mluvčí učících se němčinu. K tomu je nezbytné provést srovnání české a německé asimilace. Proto jsou v teoretické části nejprve definovány základní pojmy, které s tímto tématem úzce souvisí, jako jsou koartikulace a asimilace. Mezi dalšími fonetickými fenomény, jejichž znalost pro pochopení dané problematiky je nezbytná, jsou např. opozice fortis-lenis, změna poslední znělé souhlásky v neznělou a.j. Další část teorie je věnována německé a české asimilaci a jejím zvláštnostem, které jsou pak v závěru teoretické části shrnuty a srovnány. Na základě nalezených rozdílů mezi těmito dvěma asimilacemi bylo nastíněno, k jakým výslovnostním chybám mohou tyto rozdíly vést u českých rodilých mluvčí osvojujících si německý jazyk a byla vytvořena hypotéza. Hypotéza představuje domněnku, že žáci v projevu v němčině budou inklinovat k české asimilaci. Obsahem empirické části je výzkum prováděný u žáků kvarty na jednom brněnském gymnáziu. Cílem výzkumu bylo zjistit, zda žáci při projevu v němčině inklinují k české nebo německé asimilaci a získané výsledky správně vyhodnotit a ověřit, zda se hypotéza potvrdila či nikoliv. Hypotéza nebyla potvrzena. V závěru práce jsou tedy v diskuzi rozebírány možné příčiny, proč se daná hypotéza nepotvrdila a předloženy možné podněty pro další výzkum.
