The history of the Franciscan monastery church in Okoličné during middle ages and it?s connection with Master from Okoličné

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to provide a synthesis of the existing research and scholarship which deals with the problematics of history and the construction history of the Franciscan - Observant monastery church in Okoličné (former Virgin Mary, The Queen of the Angels) in the Middle ages and its connection to the Master from Okoličné. It compares various existing theories about the foundation, formation and, finally completion of the monastery church and about the Master from Okoličné and his works overall. The work also discusses about the Master's most important work, the former main altar dedicated to the Virgin Mary, which was not preserved in its original form and its individual - parts are presently stored in various museums and galleries in both Slovakia and abroad. In the context of existing research,this thesis tries to deepen existing theories or point to their defects through disputing some of the most up-to-date findings. The outcome of the thesis is thus the synthesis of the existing research on the issue, comparison of various theories which try to answer crucial questions about the monastery church in Okoličné and Master of Okoličné and their qualitative evaluation.

Abstract:

Cieľom práce bolo sprostredkovať syntézu doterajšieho poznania, ktoré sa zaoberá problematikou františkánského - observantského kláštorného kostola v Okoličnom v stredoveku a jeho spojenia s Majstrom z Okoličného. Porovnáva tak možné odpovede na otázky, ktoré skúmajú problematiku založenia, vzniku, dostavby a dokončovateľa kláštorého kostola a tiež problematiku Majstra z Okoličného a jeho tvorby. Práca sa zaoberá najvýznamnejším majstrovým dielom - bývalým hlavným oltárom zasväteným Panne Márii, ktorý sa dnes nedochoval v celku. Pomocou najnovších výskumov práca polemizuje s doterajším bádaním a snaží sa ho ozrejmiť, či vylúčiť nepravdivé teórie. Výsledkom práce je syntéza bádania, porovnanie odpovedí na otázky týkajúce sa problematiky a ich vyhodnotenie.
