Wajdi Mouawad : Incendies Comparative analysis of literary work and its cinema adaptation

Abstract:

Diploma thesis "Wajdi Mouawad : Incendies (Comparative analysis of literary work and its cinema adaptation)" concerns the problematic of the relation between literature and cinema, as well as the complexity of the process of the adaptation. This thesis deals with drama "Incendies" of the contemporary Canadian-Lebanese writer, Wajdi Mouawad, and its cinema adaptation directed by Canadian director Denis Villeneuve. The thematic shifts that occur during the process as well as the formal aspects of re-writing are analyzed. We focus at the same time on the origin and the reasons of these shifts.

Abstract:

Bakalářská diplomová práce "Wajdi Mouawad : Incendies(Analyse comparative de l'œuvre littéraire et de son adaptation cinématographique)" pojednává o vztahu mezi literaturou a filmem a o komplexnosti postupů při transpozici literárního díla do jeho filmové podoby. Tato práce se zabývá dramatem Incendies současného kanadsko-libanonského autora Wajdi Mouawada a jeho stejnojmennou filmovou adaptací natočenou pod vedením kanadského režiséra Denise Villeneuva. Díla jsou srovnávána jak z tematického tak i formálního hlediska. Práce analysuje příčiny vzniku tematických posunů a má za cíl ověřit či vyvrátit hypotézy týkající se dramatu a filmu.
