Usability and benefits of the Smart City concept for urban development in the Liberec Region

Abstract:

Problematika měst je v současné době velmi spjata s technickou infrastrukturou, životním prostředím, potřebami samotných obyvatel apod. Města jsou tak nucena k tomu, aby byla chytřejší, tedy využívala chytré prostředky či řešení (koncept chytrého města). Opatření měst by měla být vhodně vyhodnocována a města by na hodnocení měla adekvátně reagovat. Pro hodnocení chytrého města existuje řada sad indikátorů, ale pro česká města nejsou mnohdy vhodné - srozumitelné, jednoznačné a finančně smysluplné. Snahou této diplomové práce je pomocí vlastní sestavené sady indikátorů, která zohledňuje česká města, vyhodnotit využití a přínosy chytrého města v okresních městech Libereckého kraje. Výzkum je doplněn o dotazníkové šetření, které přináší zjištění o rozsahu povědomosti obyvatel o zavedených řešení a též i jejich přínosech pro tyto obyvatele.

Abstract:

Urban issues are currently very much linked to technical infrastructure, the environment, the needs of the inhabitants themselves, etc. Cities are thus forced to be smarter, i.e., to use smart means or solutions (smart city concept). The actions of cities should be evaluated appropriately, and cities should respond to the evaluation. There are many sets of indicators for smart city evaluation, but they are often not suitable for Czech cities - understandable, unambiguous, and financially meaningful. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the use and benefits of smart cities in the district cities of the Liberec Region using a self-developed set of indicators that considers Czech cities. The research is complemented by a questionnaire survey that provides findings on the extent of residents' awareness of the implemented solutions and their benefits for these residents.
