Práce se zabývá problematikou raného koloniálního období v Severní Americe a jeho vlivu na pozdější společnost a kulturu s důrazem na americkou literaturu. Hlavním cílem je porovnání literárního stylu raných autorů s tvorbou Nathaniela Hawthorna, dále srovnání postkoloniálních děl, zabývajících se tématem puritanismu, navzájem.
